7 Deadly Sins of Menswear

They say the Devil wears Prada and that could be true, but for men in the know he is most likely sporting items stolen from Nick Wooster’s wardrobe, just maybe not these floral trousers he was recently spotted wearing though.

For my first MWS article I thought it’d be fun to do a bit of a Q&A with a twist. I’ll take a look at my menswear sins and hopefully inspire others to have a think about their shopping habits, their wardrobe and their fashion idols.

1. Lust

Which shop's design, branding and appearance always has you coming back for more? "At the moment I’d say Mr Porter. I’m actually yet to buy anything from their website, but every time I visit it, I sit in awe and get drawn into looking at every piece of clothing. I love the personalised labels that are used on the orders and can’t wait to get my first Mr. Porter delivery through the door."

2. Gluttony

What do you own in excess? "I’d have to say plain crew neck tees. Now I know most people will say you can never have too many and I’d go as far to agree with that, but when it’s time to wash and iron, picking 10 t-shirts out of the wash basket in grey, white and black does become slightly tedious."

3. Greed

What item of clothing do you always have a desire to buy? "Currently I’d say it has to be footwear. I never used to wear many shoes until I become more aware of how to easily incorporate them into my day-to-day wardrobe. I now have a massive obsession with loafers and brogues and I am desperately trying to find the perfect pair of trainers for the approaching summer months."

4. Sloth

You need to go out and you're feeling lazy, what is your go-to outfit? "My go-to outfit is simple and classic: a white crew neck tee, dark wash jeans and a pair of tan brogues. It’s an outfit that works both in the daytime and at night and providing the fit is correct, even something this simple will look amazing."

5. Wrath

What makes you angry when shopping? "There are probably two things that really annoy me when out shopping. The first is whenever I check the stock of an item online before going to the store, only to find it is out of stock when I arrive. The second is the maximum item per changing room rule."

6. Envy

Which celebrities’ fashion sense or style do you envy the most? "A very standard answer would be David Beckham. The way he pulls off jeans, a pair of boots and a plain crew neck is ridiculous. I feel that if he brought out a range of bin bags for H&M, he would still look amazing."

7. Pride

Out of all your recent buys, what item are you most proud of? "I recently picked up a couple of jackets at bargain prices, so for this I have picked out two. The first is a Schott bomber jacket with a faux fur collar in TK Maxx for just £30 and the second, a full length overcoat from Topman down from £100 to just £25 in their sale. It’s getting a little too warm to wear either but both are classic investment pieces for the Autumn/Winter 2014 season."

Hopefully you have found my first article fun, interesting and something a little different.

I’ve been completely honest with my current menswear sins and would love to hear back about yours in the comments below.
