OUR TAKE ON THE NEW SS14 JOHN SMEDLEY COLLECTION

John Smedley Spring/Summer 2014

A family owned brand with true heritage, founded in 1784 and known for their contemporary knitwear of the highest quality, releases an impressive new collection for Spring/Summer 2014 and gave us the opportunity to style an item in an outfit for our take on the garment.

Since their garments are “Made in Great Britain” using 100% Merino, Cashmere and Sea Island cotton, from the same Derbyshire Mill for 230 years, we opted for a look which would truly fit in with their classic historic image.

John Smedley is a true British treasure, employing over 400 staff, making approx. 400k garments per year and in 2013 they deservedly received a Royal Warrant of Appointment from her Majesty the Queen.

It’s not just royalty that love this label, Japan is their biggest export market and they’ve been trading with the Japanese for over 100 years.

For SS14 they have four collection groups: ‘Imperial Kashmir’ with a vast range of colours, ‘Mainline’ with their popular classic lines, ‘Signature’ which is traditionally influenced yet noticeably different and the popular trending ‘Sport/Loungewear’ with stitch details and striping to heighten the comfortable sporty appeal.

We styled the understated and effortless ‘Malachy’ Henley shirt priced £120 at this year’s 2014 London Tweed Run.

The Ecru colour gives it a true standout heritage/vintage appeal and it is made from John Smedley’s high quality lightweight Sea Island cotton, which works really well teamed with the brown tweed fabric layers of the blazer and trousers.
